The Last of Us – Part 2 Inspired Map

This map is inspired by “The Last of Us – Part 2” game. The mission is to Ellie find her way to the Swere and then to the exit.

  • Engine : Unreal Engine 4
  • Gameplay : Third Person
  • Quick Summary :
    • This level is happening on the second day of Seattle and is inspired by the Tunnel section from day 1 and Hillcrest from day 2. Ellie needs to find her way to the Sewer and continue her way to the exit

  • Goals :
    • Creating a level based on “The Last of Us Part 2” game
    • Focusing on “Environmental Storytelling” and making an environment that represents a place that people once lived in there
  • Challenges/Thought Process :
    • Some of my challenges at this level were:
      • Making various interesting places that are good enough to push the player to explore them
      • Making a ruined and brutal world that shows no one can be safe in it, just by blockout
    • At the start, I wanted to just make the sewer part, but after some iterations, I ended up expanding the level. this decision was made based on the fact that my goal at this level was to tell stories or events just by using the environment. so I added different places to support that idea, letting the player find what happened in that place, and how can he/she use that information to make Ellie’s journey easier!
    • Some testers complained about no talking/conversation at the level! I agree with them that having different conversations can help the player to immerse in the game better. but here at this level, I used other types of communication to lead the player. ways like enemies, showing the next target building by framing, and the fact that except for the restaurant, other buildings are abandoned and mostly ruined.
  • Maps :
  • Researches :
    • To understand the levels of this game, I made the “Tunnel” level in UE4. here is the result of that level.
  • Before and After :
    • In this section, you can see the changes from the early version to the final version.
